Circuit Pastoral Worker

Newcastle (Staffs) Methodist Circuit is looking to appoint a Circuit Pastoral Worker for one year only to cover the interregnum which has been created as the result of a presbyter moving on a year earlier than expected. It is anticipated that the appointment will commence on 1 September 2010.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain the routine and emergency pastoral cover previously provided by the presbyter in the three churches within that Section of the Circuit. This will involve visiting Church members in their homes and in hospital and, on occasion, being present at various activities taking place in the churches. There will also be scope to continue and develop work in local schools and care homes and to lead fellowship groups within the three churches. This will, on occasion, require working in the evening and at the weekend.

The Circuit is in the process of amalgamating with two neighbouring circuits by September 2012. It is taking the initiative in trying to establish a Circuit Pastoral Care Team. As well as identifying appropriate people to be a part of the team it is hoped to offer training. It is hoped that the successful candidate for this post will be involved in this process.

The salary will be £8.00 per hour and normal working hours will be 40 per week. All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. At least one day will be free of responsibilities each week. There is the usual 28 days statutory annual leave entitlement per year. Eikon

Eikon is a young and growing community that brings together Christians from all over the Leek area. It is the response to a request from our young people for an opportunity to explore their spirituality in ways that resonate with their experience and culture. However, Eikon is not just for teenagers, it is for anyone who wants to glimpse with others what it means to follow Jesus Christ, the perfect ‘eikon’

Eikon is the Greek word for ‘image’. We believe that humanity is created in God’s ‘image’ – suggesting that we are God’s representatives on earth, through whom God may be seen. Jesus shows us to be in relationship with both God and our neighbour. Our usual mix of creative arts, prayer, dance, meditation, drama, music, chat, social action and cake provides us with the opportunity to encounter God and each other as we journey together towards God’s vision for us…
