The Olive Branch Programme was initially launched in mid 2007 following the tragic fire death of Olive Simcock. One of the lessons learnt following her death was for key agencies to engage in closer partnership working to better communicate and refer vulnerable persons to the appropriate agency or organisation.
Staffordshire Fire & Rescue are committed to reducing the number of accidental dwelling fires which result in injury or death for the most vulnerable members of our communities through partnership working. Olive Branch Training is completely FREE of charge, the team self sufficient and if necessary venues can be provided.
We aim to ensure all home visitors involved with caring for the elderly, disabled and vulnerable on a daily basis, are trained to identify hazards and vulnerabilities within the home and to understand and know how to deal with and reduce these risks.
In addition, Olive Branch training will inform & train home visitors to identify when to refer to Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service for a Home Fire Risk Check, thus enabling the Fire Service to engage with our most vulnerable community members, give advice on Fire Safety in the Home and provide any necessary smoke alarms or assisted technology equipment to ensure the occupants are as safe as possible.
The session is primarily based around a case study, PowerPoint presentation & a hazard spotting DVD, where deliverers will encourage audience participation.
The Olive Branch team are based at Central Risk Reduction in Stafford; its members are Martin Hall, Jane Moss & Rebecca Gill.
To gain more information or book training sessions, we are contactable on 01785 898559 or olivebranch@staffordshirefire.gov.uk

Dr Kalpana (Hallowed) & Jonathan Oloyede (Global Day of Prayer London) desire is to see leaders in each county, town and city come together with leaders from ALL denominational streams, sectors of society, churches & organisations, for a day of united prayer and strategic envisioning for the UK.
“We are all aware of the urgency of the hour as this family of nations stands at a crossroads. We know that only the merciful intervention of God through the corporate prayers of the saints will turn the tide and pull us from the end of such a dark moral, social and spiritual precipice. We are so grateful to our Father for His mercy and grace towards us in recent years.”
They believe that 17 September will be a significant and strategic day as we invite 1000 leaders from across the British Isles, to come together to pray and act prophetically as one. They want to come together to hear what the Spirit is saying to His church in this season and be inspired and challenged as we pray for the release of His presence through all the mission opportunities that lie ahead in the next few years.
If you are in a leadership position in your congregation you are invited to attend this event.

Bereavement Course
This course, originally offered at Holy Trinity, Brompton, is for anyone experiencing the pain and loss of bereavement, whether recently or over several years. Working through grief takes a very long time, and for no two people will the journey be the same. Based on Christian principles, the course is suitable for anyone with or without a Christian faith or church background. Topics covered include:
· Attachment, separation and loss
· Death in our culture
· The pain of grief
· Adjusting to change
· A Christian perspective
Each evening begins with a short talk before we separate into small groups for discussion/ support. There are opportunities for sharing for those who feel able to, but no-one is put under any pressure to do more than they wish and confidentiality is maintained. We hope that you will be able to come along to all five weeks of the course as the talks are interdependent. We have found that the groups can become places of safety and support. Foundation Degree in Community Based Pioneer Ministry
Validated by Staffordshire University
The FdA in Community Based Pioneer Ministry has been developed by the Centre for Youth Ministry in partnership with St John’s Nottingham and is validated by Staffordshire University. It is designed to provide work-based training opportunities for those involved in any kind of pioneering ministry.
Beginning in September 2011, the course is work-based, with the flexibility for students to study from two to four years. Students will attend St John's for up to 18 Wednesdays a year for teaching and formational input. Online resources will be provided as part of a blended learning approach, which will give students support as they continue learning in their own place of work, provide extra resources for study and opportunities to stay connected to others in their learning group.
Throughout their time on the course, students will work in an appropriate pioneer ministry context, such as a church, Christian community project, church plant, fresh expression, chaplaincy setting, YfC centre or mission agency.
Through this practical experience they will develop their skills and have the opportunity to put into practice all they are learning through their academic work. They will also compile portfolios of their work around five competences:
- Personal Skills
- Facilitation Skills
- Leadership Skills
- Community Skills
- Ministry Skills
Taught modules relate directly to the students’ ministry contexts and enable them to enhance their practical and theological understanding and develop their ministry skills. Types of assessment will vary to reflect different learning styles and preferences.
Modules in Year 1: Theory and Practice of Pioneer Ministry, Bible in Practice, Understanding Communities and Culture, Human Development in Practice, Models of Contextual Theology, Learning and Discipleship, Basic Skills for Pioneer Ministry.
Modules in Year 2: Spirituality for Pioneer Ministry, Entrepreneurial Skills, Approaches to Mission, Leading and Managing, Pastoral Care in Pioneer Ministry, Negotiated Study, Advanced Skills for Pioneer Ministry.
The supportive, creative and practical learning environment of MCYM courses attracts students from diverse cultural and church backgrounds with a range of different work and ministry experiences and of varying educational ability. CYM has worked in partnership with Staffordshire University since 2009.
The FdA in Community Based Pioneer Ministry, validated by Staffordshire University, is a valuable academic qualification in its own right. However, students successfully completing this award will have the opportunity to progress to a BA Honours Degree in Contextual Ministry if they wish to do so.
