Staffordshire Volunteering Strategy Consultation - Your Views Needed!

Increasing volunteering in Staffordshire means a better place for us all. It can help people to learn new skills and experiences, meet new people, gain confidence and essentially benefit others; as well bring communities closer together and improve the economy.

There are a number of different organisations across Staffordshire that work towards increasing the volunteering numbers and ensure a quality experience for those volunteers. A working group, which included representatives from across these organisations, has now developed a draft framework, suggesting definitions, aims and actions of how volunteering in Staffordshire can grow over the next five years.

As someone that understands how valuable volunteering is to both the local community and Staffordshire as a whole, we need your views on this. We only need a few minutes of your time to tell us what you think about the aims and objectives, and how it aligns with your own/organisation's objectives, and critically if you think anything is missing. Telling us your views will take just a few minutes and will help us to ensure that the strategy is a true reflection of what all stakeholders want.

How to have your say... The draft strategy, action plan and online survey are available from www.staffordshirepartnership.org.uk/thirdsector/volunteering/

The deadline for all consultation responses is Wednesday 8 August 2012.

If you require a hard copy of the survey sending in the post please contact:

Sonia Bennett, Administrative Assistant, on 01785 854289.

Or email sonia.bennett@staffordshire.gov.uk

Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank

This exciting new interdenominational project is based out of Wesley Hall Methodist, Sneyd Green and is working with seven churches across the city to support people in crisis with food boxes.

Professionals, such as Health Visitors, Project Workers and Social Care, are able to refer families or individuals into the service, provide them with a voucher that they are able to exchange at any one of the seven distribution point Churches across the city. Food is donated through Churches, Schools, supermarkets, businesses and from individuals.

So how can you and your church get involved?

• Donating food and doing food drives within your church

• Volunteering at supermarkets to raise awareness and collect food

• Volunteer at the foodbank hub in food sorting, weighing and distribution and

• Volunteer at the various food distribution sites.

There are plenty of volunteering opportunities for as little or as much time as you have and we are always looking to churches to raise funds and for food.
